Nobody, anywhere in the world has to be told that we are in the midst of an energy crisis. If you drive a car, you are likely feeling the pain at the gas pumps. If you own a home you know that your home heating and energy costs have spiked over the past several years. For those that live in cold climates you only have to compare your winter gas bill to the summer bill when you are not paying for heat to see just how much heating your home costs. As a home owner you are likely realizing that it is time to keep more of your energy dollars in your pocket, rather than see it go through your windows and doors. Energy efficient productsIt is also a great time to think of the saleability of your home, since many home buyers would rather buy a home that is energy efficient, because saving on energy would also be their prime concern. Governments everywhere are finally helping their citizens replace old energy draining products such as windows, doors and water heaters, with some of the
best energy efficient windows,
energy efficient doors
and
energy efficient water heater.
Rebates up to $5,000When you do an energy audit and use an approved contractor, then the Ontario government will give you money in the form of a rebate of up to $5,000, and the Federal government could rebate an additional $5,000 on the purchase of these energy efficient products. Here are the steps you need to take to begin your move towards energy efficient living: 1. Call for an energy audit by a certified home evaluation company. You will have to pay the energy expert to come to your home and you will receive a rebate of up to $150 or 50% off the cost. 2. The energy auditor will provide a report to find out whether you are losing energy through leaks and drafts. They will also evaluate your entire home's energy efficiency including, your water heater, windows, doors, attic, insulation and all areas of your home. 3. Once you receive the energy report, you will be given recommendations regarding where to best spend your money to gain the greatest energy conservation advantage. 4. You will then have up to a year and a half to complete some or all of the suggestions, to qualify for the rebates. 5. After the energy efficient home improvements are complete the auditor will return and give you a post report. This report will let you know how much your home has improved, and is a great selling document during negotiations. To learn more about how you can take the first steps on the way to
